Mens Shoes and Boots that Go Well with Skinny Jeans

Updated on June 30, 2015

The Shoes MAKE the Jeans

Skinny Jeans are an integral part of mainstream fashion. They are the jean of choice amongst the indie and hipster crowds, yet they have also emerged as a winner in the high fashion menswear market as well. You can find skinny jeans on any price level from $500+ for the top-of-the-line pair, $100+ for the more moderately priced pair from a designer like Rock and Republic, or even just $20+ for your standard pair of Levi's 511 Skinny Jeans.

No matter which pair of skinny jeans you decide to buy, the one things that you must realize is that the shoes you choose to wear will either make or break your skinny jean fashion.  Luckily, you can find a list of different shoes and shoe styles below that will pair well with your finest skinny jeans and leave you turning heads and receiving compliments for your superior fashion sense.

The Flats

While the term "flat" commonly refers to a woman's dancing shoe, the style has broadened greatly and gained a lot of traction thanks to the popularity of both TOMS shoes and Sanuk shoes. These flat style shoes are usually worn with skinny jeans by those with a more indie and hipster style. The flat style is simply and hugs to the foot like the denim hugs to the legs.  The flats are also a great alternative to sandals in the summer as they are light and breathable for on the feet.

The Sport

If your tastes are more along the high-fashion end of things then this sporty selection of shoes to the right are what you want. The Lacoste shoes featured here are more along the racing shoe style. They are quick, sleek, and make an excellent use of lines and harder angles. The shoes add to their sleekness by completely taking the laces out of the equation and simply using a strap to keep the shoe tight on the foot. These shoes will usually look better on smaller feet, as they can have a tendency to look longer than they actually are with a pair of skinny jeans.  Check out some other fine Italian brands like Replay for more sporty shoes.

The High-Top

Besides just being a classic style shoe, chunky high-tops like the Diesel I'm Pression Straps featured at the right pair very well with skinny jeans. The contrast between skinny jeans and bigger more bulky shoes actually works quite well. The skinny jean and high-top pairing is especially popular among the skater and more urban styled genres. The color options with high-tops are also fun to play with as well.  Nike, Jordan, Ecco, and Mark Jacobs all make some high-tops that would work well with your favorite pair of skinny jeans and a trendy t-shirt.

The Boot

The boot and skinny jean pairing will definitely not appeal to everyone. Putting boots together with skinny jeans can reference two different styles. Skinny jeans and boots can be interpreted as a high-fashion style depending on the wash of the jeans and the clothing on your upper body. If your jeans are distressed and your clothes are styled in the more messy fashion, then skinny jeans paired with boots can be easily interpreted as a rocker style.  The boots featured to the right are primarily rocker style, although the lower cut ones could be used for a higher fashion look.

Choose your shoes carefully, your whole look depends on them!  Feel free to share your reviews of the shoes discussed here, as well as your suggestions on which shoes go well with skinny jeans, in the comment section below!
