Since the late 1960's and early 1970's the Van's shoe company has been turning out some of the best skate and sport shoes and has revolutionized skate styles and a good part of the skate shoe industry. While Van's had produced regular sneakers and skate shoes for a long time in their early days, the felt the pressure to diversify into other sporst, a move which led them into bankruptcy. Luckily, Van's made a good comeback and has once again risen to the top ranks of the skate shoe industry while continuing to fuel the new fire of fashion across the shoe industry at large.  While Van's does make shoes for both men and women, you will see few styles below speficially geared toward the male crowd out there. 

The Vans Slip-On shoe revolutionized much of the skate shoe industry.  The slip-on introduction was so well recieved that it spawned many different "copy-cat" versions from other shoe companies.  As you can see from the product pictures below, the Vans slip on is a very simplistic take on the show. The shoe is made completely of canvas, elastic, and has a non-marking rubber sole. The slip-on is a very convenient shoe because it lives up to its name. All you have to do is slip it right on like a slipper, there is no need to fuss with laces and knots. Just slip-on and you are ready to go.

The slip-ons are available in almost any color imaginable, and are now becoming available in a variety of different checkered, argyle, and plaid patterns. Some slip-ons are even screen printed with different symbols or popular designs relevant to the skating community. Vans also allows users to order customized vans. Customers can choose the size, color, pattern, and symbol for their completely unique one-of-a-kind shoe.

The Vans Liberty Authentic line of shoes is another simplistic take on skate shoes. The Libery Authentic is similar in design to the slip-on but is different in that it uses laces and shoe-strings to secure the shoe to the foot rather than just elastic. The Liberty Authentic's are constructed from canvas and are cushioned by non-marking rubber soles. The Liberty Authentic style is gaining increased popularity not only in the skate and surf shoe communities, but in high fashion as well. Many premium brands such as Ralph Lauren Polo have released canvas shoes strikingly similar to the Vans Liberty Authentics.

The Liberty Authentics are available in many different colors, with the best selling colors being blue and purple respectively. The inside of the shoes is lined with checkered material adding in a little extra stylistic freshness. Many Liberty Authentic shoe owners also prefer to remove the boring white laces, and relace the shoe with more eccentric colors such as bright pink, blue, yellow, or green.
